Mumbai: Motorola's budget smartphone Moto G generated unusually high traffic on online retailer Flipkart's website, which is selling the phone exclusively in India, after it was launched at midnight on Thursday.
The 16GB variant of the phone was sold out within the first 15 minutes, and another set of 16GB variant, offered at noon, also ran out of stock within the hour.
The variant was priced at Rs.13,999 while the 8GB model of the phone is available for Rs.12,499 on Flipkart. Other websites such as eBay India are also selling the phone at Rs.21,999 and Rs.15,890 apiece for the 16GB and 8GB variants, respectively. Since Flipkart is the exclusive partner, eBay users could be selling the phone at a premium.
According to a Flipkart spokeswoman, the website on an average receives a million visitors a day but on Thursday it witnessed the largest spike in traffic in six years. She declined to disclose the number of phones sold.
Less than 24 hours after its launch, there were 1,160 ratings and 746 reviews for the 8GB variant at the Flipkart website.
The phone sports a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400, QuadCore processor and a high-definition 4.5 inch display. The phone runs on Android 4.3, the highest version of Jelly Bean and can be upgraded to the next version KitKat.
