Twitter testing autoplay videos and quality filter on iPhone, iPad app - Delhi Daily News

Twitter has started testing autoplay videos feature as well as quality filter on its iPhone and iPad apps following in the footsteps of Facebook.

As a test run, the users of iOS in the US who are having the Twitter app on their devices will find videos playing automatically without pressing the play button.

The videos that will autoplay include videos uploaded by users using Twitter's mobile app, promoted video ads, and clips which are part of its Amplify program that allows companies like ESPN and the NFL to upload videos with pre-roll ads.

However, under the test, videos which originate in Twitter's Vine- the 6-second-video app, will not autoplay.

According to a report one part of the two-pronged experiment will offer some users entire videos being autoplayed in loop, whereas in the other prong, the users will get to see looping 6-second autoplay previews teasing a video.

During testing, the videos will autoplay in mute mode. However when the users will click on video format, the video will expand to full-screen, having sound enabled, similar to the Facebook feature.

Till now, Twitter considered a video as viewed once the user clicked on it to play, whereas Facebook counts a video as viewed only after it has played for three seconds.

In January this year, Twitter allowed the users of its app to record and upload videos. The latest decision to add autoplay feature aims to face competition by increasing the sum of video posted to the Twitter's own network.
