Google to soon improve Chrome scrolling

Global search engine giant Google is now looking to improve the scrolling performance in its Chrome browser by introducing support for Pointer Events, a standard that supports both mouse and touch navigation at the same time.

Initially intended to improve the less than satisfactory scrolling performance in its popular web browser on a Windows tablet, Google is planning to bring the support across all its versions. This will eventually improve users' scrolling experience in Chrome across multiple platforms.

Pointer Events was first introduced by Redmond giant Microsoft in its Internet Explorer browser. Until now, Google has been reported to focus much of its efforts on supporting Touch Events, a standard more commonly used by Apple in its Safari browser.

Pointer Events have a number of technical advantages over both Touch Events and Mouse Events. The standard has been adopted by Microsoft, Mozilla and Opera. Google joining in goes on to show how potent Pointer Events could be, primarily in improving scrolling and touch interactions. The decision to adopt the standard came after Google received largely positive feedback from the web community over the same.

According to Google, the new standard will function in parallel to existing Touch Events, but the same won't compromise on Chrome's performance.

That said everything is at a very nascent stage for now. The company is looking to gradually build the support and test it with nightly and weekly builds before coming out with a full-fledged support.
