Android Wear has been with us for a few months now, but there are still a number of key features that consumers want to see. Luckily, Google is answering the call and has today issued Android Wear 4.4W2, bring with it the seed of GPS functionality and offline music playback. GPS particularly is something consumers have been waiting for and has often been thought of as a key feature if smartwatches are ever going to be considered as standalone products.

The update first arrived on the LG G Watch but is now rolling out to all Android Wear devices. Carrying the build number KNX01Q and does actually arrive with the already mentioned features. However, neither the GPS nor offline music capabilities actually work yet, unable to load music and GPS not working because the hardware does not support it. So, this may be viewed as an update for future smartwatches as opposed to the ones that are currently available. However, the Sony SmartWatch 3 has GPS capabilities. What is available in the update are new music controls, a new touch interface for music, although you will need the material version of Play Music to get it. The background color changes depending on what you are listening to, while there is also a remote key animation.
