LG rolls out Android 4.4 KitKat update for European, US G Pad 8.3 - TechnologyTell
As LG began sending out sweet KitKat over-the-air packages to the G Pad 8.3 in Korea less than two weeks ago, it was fairly obvious European and North American models would follow suit before long. Still, we didn't expect LG to move so swiftly and release the Android 4.4 update on the old continent and in the US of A already.
But it's live, boys and girls, and you can get it via LG's PC Suite tool. If you'd rather avoid the hassle of hooking up the tab to a computer and so on and so forth, odds are it's going to be a while. A few days, maybe a week until the firmware makes its way automatically to both European and US devices.
For safety, remember to back up your precious data, keep the battery above the 50 percent mark and free up at least 500 MB of storage space. It might not sound like it, but the upgrade is quite hefty, bringing subtle UI tweaks to the table, along with performance bumps across the board (from Wi-Fi to camera to battery life), and a host of bug fixes. Also, LG-specific software features.
Previously on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, the LG G Pad 8.3 is a mere six months old, costing roughly $300 outright or $200 in a Verizon contract-locked flavor these days. It's not the cheapest KitKat slate around, however it offers mind-blowing 1,920 x 1,200 pixels resolution and comes in a robust hardware configuration: quad-core Snapdragon 600 CPU/2 GB RAM. So yeah, it's worth it.
