Skoda planning sub-4m sedan for India: VisionC Concept teased - Rush Lane
In a bid to enhance sales and strengthen company portfolio in the country, Skoda is keen to introduce a sedan in the sub four meter category in India. This, the company states will be exclusively targeted towards the upwardly mobile segment of car buyers in India, and will become the first under 4 meter sedan from Skoda.
The new sub four meter sedan being planned by Skoda Auto will be based on the same Fabia-Rapid platform which has proved its mettle in India. The upcoming sedan will be produced from company's plant in Aurangabad in Maharashtra and will be the company's first compact sedan globally.
Skoda Auto, keep to tap the luxury sector, is eager to expand their reach by bringing in new products in the premium segment. This will include the sub four meter compact sedan as customers in India are eager to move ahead to more luxurious products. This India specific compact car is currently under development, though the company has not confirmed when it will be ready for launch.
Being in the sub four meter category, means that the upcoming sedan will be entitled to the lower excise duty, which will make it possible for Skoda to price the new car aggressively, like the Maruti Amaze and Honda DZire. Apart form this, Skoda India is also restructuring Indian operations and has already closed its after sales office in Pune only operating out of its Mumbai corporate office and manufacturing unit in Aurangabad, reveals ET.
On a global note, Skoda has revealed a teaser of their upcoming VisionC Concept four door sedan. This new car will be revealed at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show in March 2014.Speaking about this car (teaser above), Skoda says, "The design language of the dynamic and elegant five-door coupé is taking the leading role in the next evolutionary steps: ŠKODA's design is becoming more expressive, dynamic and emotional. At the same time, the five-door coupé study shows the possibility of innovative body concepts."
