Lava Iris Pro 30: 10 reasons why it is not a great deal - Daily Bhaskar

Are you thing about purchasing the latest handset launched by Lava Mobiles, the Iris Pro 30? In that case you need to know these things before you make a decision.

The handset was launched last Friday as the most expensive phone from the company till date (doe not include Xolo branded phones). The 4.7 incher has been priced at Rs 15999 and boasts the lightest profile in the market today at 114 grams only. We bring 10 points for you to consider before you are ready to give a go ahead to this phone.

The handset is the same one that was supposed to be launched in August last year. The launch was however delayed. The company launched the same handset last Friday.

So basically you are getting the same handset which was appropriate for the market some 5 months back.

The phone has a display of 4.7 inches only with a display resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. The market today is seeing a list of phones that are 5-inches or higher screen with a full HD display at this price. There is no reason that you invest your money for a 720p display resolution phone.

The phone does have a profile that echos an iPhone-like design. The back panel which appears metallic is actually plastic when you touch it. Being lightest in the market today after the iPhone 5, it will give you an iPhone like feel but the specs will make you feel lagging behind others.

The operating system on the phone is Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with no special customization. You will not want to buy a Jelly Bean phone when the market is getting Android 4.4 KitKat OS phones or the new OS updates.

1.2 GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6589 processor phone for a Rs 15999 budget, are you serious? Phones with this processor saw less demand as soon as companies started rolling out MediaTek quad-core MT6589 Turbo processor in middle of 2013. The year 2013 also witnessed dozens of smartphones with the MT6589 processor at below Rs 13000 price point.

For instance the Zen Untrafone with 701HD is available in the market with the same 1.2 quad-core processor and Android Jelly Bean 4.2 OS at Rs 8600 now.

Look at the features- flip-to-mute, lift to answer a call or dial the number, picture in picture, voice and face unlocking and more. These are not landmark features that came into market in recent months. Most of these have been there since last 15-20 months.

8 megapixel camera – who needs this? Since middle of 2013 phones are coming with 13 megapixel camera or more. Sony even went further with a 20.7 megapixel camera phone in a sleek body of Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z1 Mini. Though company claims it is better than any 13 MP camera in the market today, it is still an 8 MP one, right!

The speaker is not loud enough. If you are in a noisy background you will probably end up shouting "speak again please, you are not audible".

Internal memory of 4 GB only is what Lava is offering with the new Iris Pro 30. This is too less when you look at recent launches from Samsung and others. You should at least expected 16 GB internal memory in a flagship.

Non-removable battery is another issue with the phone, which means the phone will cough out its life when the battery goes out of life. The 2000 mAh battery offers 3.5 hours of talktime on 3G.
