While the march was peaceful, the marchers shouted slogans asking the government to uphold the freedom of the internet and ensure that it remains an open medium. They accused the government and regulator Trai of being 'hand-in-glove' with telecom companies.

A delegation led by Youth Congress president Raja Brar and NSUI's national president Roji M John submitted a memorandum to IT and communications minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, demanding that the Trai consultation processbe scrapped. Describing the 118-page Trai consultation paper as "mind-numbing" and "incomprehensible for the masses", the memorandum claimed that the paper is biased towards telecom companies.

The memorandum also demanded that the government of India not prolong the consultation process and scrap the committee set up by the telecom ministry. It said there is no need for such a committee as the central government has the power to issue final directions to Trai in the public interest under Section 25 of the Trai Act, 1997.
