Xiaomi sets first global Mi phone launch event in India on April 23 - TechOne3
After selling over a million smartphones, Xiaomi has now scheduled first global Mi phone launch event in India to grow further. The event will take place in New Delhi on April 23 and will be attended by Xiaomi CEO and founder Lei Jun, alongside its president and co-founder Bin Lin and Vice President Hugo Barra.
Xiaomi reveals the event through a tweet on late Friday and mentions that all its Mi Fans can join the launch by registering on the official Mi India site. The invite reads, "i is coming." However, there is no details about the device which would be launched at the event.
It is quite confirmed that the new device would be a mid-range smartphone, likely to be the recently rumoured Xiaomi Ferrari that is said to have Android Lollipop operating system out of the box and a decent list of hardware specifications.
Beijing-based Xiaomi had entered India in July last year through partnering Flipkart as its exclusive sales channel for selling the range of Mi smartphones. But just a few days back, it announced the expansion of its business in the country with partnering Snapdeal and Amazon alongside Flipkart.
Apart from the three online marketplaces, Xiaomi has Bharti Airtel and The Mobile Store as two of its offline sales partners in the country.
Yesterday, Xiaomi revealed it sold over two million smartphones during its 12-hour long Mi Fan Festival sale that was conducted in just a few Asian regions, including India, Indonesia and Singapore.
Alongside selling its range of devices in the Indian market, Xiaomi is quite keen to start its production in India under the leadership of its country head Manu Kumar Jain. The company also has plans to start selling its devices through its own e-commerce portal in the country to continue the ongoing expansion of its business.
Xiaomi had sold 61.1 million smartphones last year and is aiming to grow at 100 million figure this year. Furthermore, the company had raised $1.1 billion at $45 billion valuation in December last year to compete against market leaders, including Samsung and Apple.
