Tumblr iOS 4.0

Tumblr on Wednesday rolled out a "big huge" update for its iOS app, bringing a number of new features, including the ability to make video posts with a simple URL from your phone.

This means that all you have to do is copy a URL from YouTube, Vimeo, or another site; paste it into the app; and voila — you've made a video post.

"This is apparently your most-requested feature for the mobile app," Tumblr wrote in its release notes. "Smart. We love it. Here you go."

Besides that, Tumblr for iOS version 4.0 is chock-full of other handy additions, including the ability to filter searches by post type (photos, chats), submit posts to blogs that accept submissions, and create new blogs right from your mobile device.

"Ever get an idea for a blog while you're out on the town, or up in an aeroplane?" Tumblr wrote. Now you can "make it, name it, give it an avatar, give it a header image, title it, describe it, post your first post to it — all before you even return to the Earth."

The revamped app also brings a new widget offering "one-finger access to what's trending on Tumblr." To get it, swipe down from anywhere on your phone to open your widget screen, scroll down to the bottom of the "Today" tab, tap "Edit," then tap "Trending on Tumblr."

Other than that, Version 4.0 also delivers a new icon that "feels good under your finger," a sticky search bar for easy queries, sticky avatars so you'll always know who made the post you're currently reading, and a new look for the iPad. GIFs should also load "in a much more pleasing fashion," and you can now delete blogs from the app.
