Now, call for free after 9pm on BSNL - Times of India

PANAJI: In a bid to revive its fortunes and boost the usage of fixed landline phones, state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) announced that its consumers can now make unlimited calls from landline phones to any landline phone and mobile phone irrespective of the service provider from May 1.

"This unlimited free night calling shall be available from 9 pm to 7 am," BSNL said. The scheme will cover all rural and urban areas and will be applicable on all landline plans including special plans and combo plans, the company added.

Making a strong pitch for landline phones, BSNL said that landline phones offer better voice clarity. BSNL's move appears to have been prompted by data released by TRAI data in February which indicated that BSNL's market share in the landline market appeared to have been undercut by private players, especially Airtel. BSNL dominates the landline market. As on February 28, it had over 1.66 crore landline customers.
