Not relenting on its late entry, Microsoft on Tuesday rolled out two models of its smartphones under Lumia brand, from its recently acquired mobile handset brand Nokia, saying "Powerful ideas can come at any time" perhaps justifying its late entry.

"As upward mobile consumers are looking for a device with more flexibility to switch between work and play, we are launching two models — Lumia 640XL and Lumia 640 — for the Indian market," said its south India director of Microsoft Mobile Devices T.S. Sridhar, during its launch in Bangalore. Both the models are manufactured at its Vietnam plant.

Priced at Rs.15,799 and Rs.11,999, respectively, the 640XL and 640 enable users to access, edit and share Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents and OneNote notebooks with Microsoft Office suite.Lumia640XL-Beautyshot1

"The XL model enables users to connect with work and personal e-mail while on the go, with Microsoft Outlook built-in," Sridhar said.The XL model allows users to switch seamlessly between voice and video calls with built-in Skype integration feature.

With 1GB memory and a quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, the 640XL enables users to access key documents or run their favourite websites, apps and games, said the company."Both models have the latest version of Windows 8.1 and have dual SIM 3G variants," Sridhar said.

To promote the product, Microsoft is offering a 12-month Office 365 Personal subscription worth Rs.3,299, with one TB of storage on OneDrive. Special offers from MobiKwik and Ola are included, but all these offers are valid if purchased till an introductory offer.

The second model Lumia 640 will be available only on Flipkart, while 640 XL will be available for sale in Microsoft's channel partners across the country. To cover up its late entry into the mobile phone segment, Microsoft acquired Finland's Nokia for $7.2 billion in April 2014.

Both the Lumia 640 Dual SIM and Lumia 640 XL Dual SIM run on Windows Phone 8.1 with Lumia Denim update. Powered by by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz coupled with 1GB of RAM, both devices come with 8GB built-in memory storage, expandable via microSD card up to 128GB.

The Lumia 640 Dual SIM priced less at Rs.11,999 sports a 5-inch HD (720×1280 pixels) IPS LCD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It sports an 8MP rear camera and a 0.9MP front-facing camera for selfies.

In case of the Lumia 640 XL Dual SIM, a large 5.7-inch HD (720×1280 pixels) IPS LCD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3, with a 13MP rear camera with Zeiss optics and a 5MP front camera are the additional features. The Lumia 640 XL Dual SIM also comes with a higher range 3000mAh battery, while the Lumia 640 Dual SIM has only a 2500mAh battery.
