Apple has been endorsing its new line up of the Apple Watch as the ultimate wearable devices but it may soon have some competition from Google.

According to a report from The Verge, a number of Android Wear watches are likely to be available for iPhone users soon. The report says that Google is working on the Android Wear software to make it compatible with iPhones. It even goes on to declare that the build is close to finish.

If Google makes the Android Wear compatible with iOS, Apple Watch will have a direct competition with Android smartwatches.

Last year Google's Android Wear project manager, Jeff Chang expressed that the company believed in pushing out its software across different platforms. He told the Huffington Post that they "always want as many users as possible to enjoy our experience, so in terms of enabling more people to use Android Wear we're very interested in making that happen."

Pebble has been the most successful wearable company till date and one of the major reasons behind the impressive sales figures is that it comes with cross-platform support. If Google is successful in releasing its Android Wear support for iOS devices it can get a huge boost.

However, even if Android Wear gets compatibility with the iOS, there will still be the matter of approval from Apple. In 2010, Apple came up with a new guideline announcing that it will not let any app pass on to the App Store if the name or the metadata of the application mentions any competing platforms. And since the name 'Android Wear' is going directly against the guideline there are reasonable chances that Apple rejects the entire idea of supporting Android Wear.
