Facebook takes on Skype and FaceTime with mobile video calling - Telegraph.co.uk

"Messenger already offers people the ability to make voice calls to friends and loved ones around the world," said Facebook's head of product for Messenger, Stan Chudnovsky, and engineering manager, Param Reddy, in a blog post.

Video calling will be available for Messenger users in Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, France, Greece, Ireland, Laos, Lithuania, Mexico, Nigeria, Norway, Oman, Poland, Portugal, the UK, the US and Uruguay, with other regions to follow over the coming months.

Video calling is the latest feature released for Messenger, after Facebook introduced the ability to send money to friends in March. The money transfer system will use bank debit cards of users, and may take up to three days depending on the banks used.

Facebook also recently announced Messenger Platform, which allows third-party apps to integrate with Messenger, and Businesses on Messenger, which will allow business to interact with customers over Messenger.
