Karbonn Launches 2 Budget Star Phones Online! - Indiatimes.com

After a slew of flagship phone launches by Indian makers, looks like it's time once again to focus on the budget segment. Micromax, just yesterday, quietly released the Bling 3 A86 online and now Karbonn has launched 2 new entry-level handsets based on the Android platform.

Labelled under the Karbonn Star series, Karbonn Smart A1 Star and Smart A5 Star are already available online and both fall under the below Rs 5000/- category. The phones can be called successors of the original Karbonn A1 and Karbonn A5 smartphones launched previously.

Karbonn Smart A1 Staris the bigger of the two with a 3.5-inch capacitive display. The HVGA display screen comes with a resolution of 320x480 pixels. The phone is a dual-SIM device and is not very heavy when it comes to specifications.

Karbonn Smart A1 Star runs on the highly outdated but still strong Android ICS, ver 4.0. Considering the phone is well below the 5k mark, we did not really expect a Jelly Bean variant and we can ensure that Karbonn won't be rolling out any update for this cute candy-bar phone anytime in the near or far future. Under the hood runs a 1 GHz processor. Karbonn Smart A1 comes with 512 MB internal memory (of which 163 MB is user-available). However, you can expand the memory to an additional 32 GB using MicroSD card slot. With such low internal memory and just 256 MB RAM, the phone is clearly targeted at first-time Android buyers who are still finding their way in the open app market. However, you cannot be adventurous with the phone and download as many apps as required. Karbonn Smart A1 keeps it short and to the point.

The phone also comes with a 3 MP rear end camera and a basic camera for video-calling. Karbonn Smart A1 also features a 1450 mAh battery. Connectivity options are all present. For the price, we think Karbonn has packed quite decent specifications.

Karbonn Smart A5 might be the 'smaller' but is clearly the 'better 'device of the two when it comes to features and specifications. Or so Karbonn wants us to think. Needless to add, the price is also higher.

Karbonn Smart A5 comes with a 3.2-inches display. Why Karbonn chose to give the better version a smaller screen is beyond us. Though the difference is a bare minimum, it is definitely a step away from the large screen trend that seems to be getting more and more popular. The screen resolution is the same. Karbonn Smart A5 comes with a HVGA screen and a resolution of 320x480 pixels.
